"Agriculture and "food industry" must at the fore front. Trough the application of a well-thought approach, we can quickly achieve tangible results in these sectors. The regional map of development should define the list of where and what should be grown and processed. There is no high-tech production. Within two or three years, we can become self-sufficient and to supply our own full food basket, taking into account the agricultural processing. Until that time, you should review the entire list of food imports to reduce significantly foreign exchange spending. We have significant trade with neighboring countries. Let's temporarily increase the supply of the missing food products until we have our own. It is clear that cocoa, coffee and other exotic products used in the confectionery industry, we will have to buy for the currency, but the big share of subsidies can be in tenge", - suggested Timur Kulibayev.

The head of the Presidium of NCE RK "Atameken" stressed that the official figure of 46% of the rural population, and this figure is actually more based on small towns with a population of 1500 people, the country still can’t feed itself.

"Everyone speaks a lot about food industry, but it no one, in fact, does anything. Taking into account the actual rural population, first of all, we need to engage people in cultivation. To help young people learn professions associated with agriculture and the work in the agricultural sector and food industry. Note that not there are not enough marketers. Hence, there is no competent expertise in the regions. Why, we wonder, to build a milk factory in the steppe? A greenhouse in the north when in the south temperature is almost a zero degree all year round? All you need to think through in advance, to calculate", - said Chairman of the Presidium of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs.

Kulibayev has offered to adopt the experience of neighbors within the EAEU - Russia and Belarus, which successfully cope with the challenge of food self-reliance and active promotion of their products in trading networks and public catering establishments thanks to the state support. Our farmers can’t boast of it yet.

The head of the Presidium of NCE RK requested the Committee to give serious attention to the work in such areas as the development of agricultural cooperation, improvement of subsidy programs, the development of transport and logistics in the food supply chain cluster of Astana and Almaty with further projection of the experience to other regions. The first concrete proposals will be discussed next week.
