Mechanical engineering remains an attractive industry in Kazakhstan, not only for investment but also for the development of its export potential
The future of the domestic machine-building complex will depend not only on the demand in the country, but also abroad. This was announced today at a briefing at the Service of Central Communications by Vice Minister for Investment and Development of Kazakhstan Albert Rau. The Vice-Minister stressed that within the state program of industrialization, Kazakhstani enterprises actively engage in the process of creation of high-tech products. During the First Five-Year Plan, machine engineering was one of the fastest growing industries in Kazakhstan. As an example, Albert Rau presented the results of research on attractiveness of priority projects for potential investors. "Ironically, machine engineering is in the first place, then - "Chemical industry", then food production, and then the rest of the industries. That is, the potential is big enough", - said the deputy Minister.
At the same time, the domestic machine builders now need to prepare for an aggressive fight not only for their niche on the market, but also for the consumer. According to Albert Rau, the competitive environment in Kazakhstan is still in its formative stages. "Another issue – is the lack of environment for the emergence of competition. Just imagine: in Germany, hundreds of thousands of machine-building enterprises, they are driven by innovation and productivity, competition is huge. We do not have such an environment, but it will gradually appear", - he shared his observations of the Vice-Minister.
Albert Rau also said that by the instructions of the President of Kazakhstan the state program of forced industrial innovation was adjusted. And now for the production the primary criteria are productivity, exports, and energy conservation. "Those who comply with it - obtain state support in the form of export and grant funding. Those who show success in foreign markets get support", - said the Deputy Minister.
At the same time, he stressed that access to foreign markets is "very difficult not because we have uncompetitive products, but because, as a rule, in the neighboring countries the engineering products are supported by export credits". It is only through such lending that locomotives assembled in Kazakhstan "went to Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan".
"The funds for export credits were allocated to the banks. We have something to sell. But it is not enough to win the competition in the domestic market, it is necessary to demonstrate competition at the external market", - concluded the Vice Minister for Investment and Development.
