Fire in the center of the city: the capital's shopping center passes a security test

Today, on April 24, in Astana, the Keruen City shopping center organized fire drills together with emergency services.
The fire alarm of the center activated at 11:00. Elevators and escalators were stopped, and the loudspeaker announced evacuation: "Leave the premises immediately!". All fire exits were opened. There are 11 of them in the building: 8 emergency, 3 main.
After the announcement of the fire alarm, the employees of the shopping center, began escorting the visitors to the stairs acting on instructions. Evacuated people and workers of the shopping center gathered near a special sign on the site behind the center. As soon as the building emptied, the light was turned off and all the shops were closed.
After that an operation on fire area elimination was started. The first to find the fire source was the fire service of the shopping center: two men in protective suits deployed a fire hose and began extinguishing the fire.
According to the scenario, the utility room in of one of the boutiques on the second floor caught fire. The fire engines arrived literally 5 minutes later. By the way, a big plus of "Keruen City" - parking is located at a distance of 5 meters from the main exits. That makes work much easier for the firemen. The fire in place was extinguished by about ten firefighters, the others evacuated the "employees" of the fourth floor from the windows. The role of the "flame" was performed by a red flag
It should be noted that all the interested persons could take part in the exercises: media representatives, bloggers, public figures and townspeople. They were able to give an independent assessment of the work of the shopping center on ensuring the safety of visitors.
"Atameken" has repeatedly stated that both business and the population will trust public control more. Taking part in such checks, the public has the opportunity to raise the level of their own legal knowledge. In general, according to Atameken, in Kazakhstan it is very important to develop the sphere of consumer rights protection.
Chief engineer of "Keruen City" Zharkyn Zhambolatov said that the shopping center updated the security system last year by installing modern equipment.
"According to the results of the exercises, five violations were prescribed for correction. Everything was immediately corrected, due to which we passed the control check of the Emergency Department" - Zharkyn Zhambolatov said, advising visitors to pay more attention to evacuation plans in order to know where the emergency exits and stairs are located.
To date, emergency authorities have conducted 851 checks out of 972. Violators have been brought to administrative responsibility. The total amount of fines amounted to KZT16 million.
