Kazakhstan will submit a bid to host World Petroleum Congress 2023
The initiative was unanimously supported at the 23rd meeting of the Council of the "Kazakhstan Association of Oil, Gas and Energy Sector Organizations" KAZENERGY".
In his opening remarks, Chairman of the Presidium of NCE RK "Atameken", Chairman of the Association "KAZENERGY" Timur Kulibayev stressed that for the energy sector of Kazakhstan the outgoing year was favorable. World prices for raw materials made it possible to revise plans in the direction of expanding the activities of energy sector companies.
“This year, we have modernized the refineries, thus solving the problem of ensuring supplies in the domestic market. Today, the refineries produce surplus of necessary fuel. And, it should be noted that due to the modernization of today the prices of oil products in Kazakhstan are lower than in the Russian Federation and all neighboring countries, ”said Timur Kulibayev.
Association KAZENERGY together with NCE Atameken took part in the development of the concept of a new Environmental Code. An important milestone was the adoption of the Subsoil and Subsoil Use Code, the new Law on Standardization, as well as the launch of the mechanism of work with renewable energy sources.
“I am convinced that legislation is directly affecting the development of the energy sector and will create an attractive investment climate in the country,” said Timur Kulibayev.
According to the director of KAZENERGY, Aset Magauov, last year the Association worked productively in 9 key areas. These are spheres of taxation and tariffs, subsoil use, turnover of oil products and liquefied petroleum gas, electric power industry, ecology and a number of other issues.
Regarding work plans for the coming year, he highlighted the preparation jointly with the National Chamber of an amendment to the new Subsoil Code, changes to the legislation on the fuel market (introduction of market mechanisms), and work on the preparation of the National Energy Report in 2019.
According to Timur Kulibayev, in the outgoing year, with the support of the Government and the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, our country successfully held a meeting of the World Petroleum Council, which was attended by over 800 delegates from 51 countries.
“All delegates stressed the high level of preparation, and noted that Astana can rightfully claim to hold the World Petroleum Congress 2023,” said Timur Kulibayev.
In case Kazakhstan will be chosen as a venue for the congress, the event will be held on the territory of EXPO. Speaking about the upsides of our bid, the Executive Director of the Association Talgat Karashev noted that Astana has a developed network of communications and infrastructure, convenient logistics, the presence of already existing pavilions and places to accommodate guests. And most importantly, Kazakhstan already has experience in hosting major international events.
Members of the Association unanimously voted to submit the bid.
Also during the meeting of the Council of the Association, a report on the approval of the budget of the KAZENERGY Association for 2019 was presented, the initiative to create a single center of knowledge and competencies for the oil and gas industry was considered, and a study of current environmental legislation practices in OECD countries.
