Atameken offers to conduct a comprehensive study of handicrafts and develop this segment as an independent direction of micro-business.

In Astana, the first tourist forum of artisans “Uly Dala Eli” was held on the topic “Micro-business. Traditions. Opportunities". It was attended by Kazakhstani masters and artisans from the near and far abroad.

“Handicraft is a business, and consolidated handicraft is the idea of promoting the cultural heritage of the country of the Great Steppe.” This was announced by the head of the secretariat of the Presidium of the NCE RK "Atameken", the chairwoman of the Business Women’s Council Lazzat Ramazanova, welcoming the guests and participants.

“The idea of holding the first Craftsmen Forum in Kazakhstan appeared to confirm the need to consolidate this segment. Today’s Forum emphasizes that artisans have great potential to grow, develop and promote our history and our culture, ” said Lazzat Ramazanova.

Lazzat Ramazanova proposed to conduct a comprehensive study in the country, which will cover all existing areas of handicraft, growth points and regional specifics. As a result, the results of the study and further support measures will be able to give a serious impetus to the full development of this area.

Given the great interest on the part of the participants, Lazzat Ramazanova also offered to hold such a forum on an annual basis. Moreover, not only Kazakhstani artisans could participate in it, but also masters from all of Central Asia.

“We want to have your own authoritative site in Astana every year, so that artisans take a worthy place on this site. In this matter, we could fruitfully cooperate with the Asian Development Bank, which is now co-organizing the event. I am sure that in the future, among the nominations at the “Best Product of Kazakhstan” and “Altyn Sapa” competitions, artisans will be able to reach completely new frontiers, ”Lazzat Ramazanova said.

Director of the Representative Office of the Asian Development Bank in Kazakhstan, Giovanni Capannelli, supported the idea.

“Today at the exhibition I was very impressed by the presented works. They are unique and inimitable. Next year our bank will celebrate its 25th anniversary. And we would very much like to celebrate this date in Kazakhstan by supporting this kind of micro-business. This is what unites the culture and traditions of any nation, ”said Capannelli.

Chairman of the Board of JSC “NC Kazakh Tourism” Rashid Kuzembaev stressed that artisans can make a significant contribution to the development of the tourist potential of our country. For these purposes, specific and effective mechanisms of state support are needed. In general, handicraft, with proper development, can solve a whole range of social issues.

“These are employment issues, especially in rural areas and single-industry towns. Issues of female employment. The role of handicraft in the education of the younger generation is great. According to the current legislation in Kazakhstan handicraft refers to intangible cultural property, but in its essence it should be attributed to the types of small business. And in this issue, we must rely on the authority and the role that Atameken NPP plays in supporting entrepreneurship. I am sure that Atameken will play the first violin here, Rashid Kuzembaev said.

The Forum also included an exhibition of craftsmen, the exchange of international experience, B2B meetings and master classes.

Representatives of various associations and associations took part in the event as international speakers: the Association of Craftsmen, Craftsmen and Painters "Hunarmand" (Republic of Uzbekistan), the art groups Tumar (Kyrgyz Republic), the Association of German-speaking felt masters (Germany), People's Republic of China.
