ATAMEKEN PROPOSES TO DETERMINE DEVELOPMENT VECTORS OF MINING AND METALLURGICAL INDUSTRIES
Development of the draft Comprehensive Plan for the development of the mining and metallurgical industries (MMI) for 2019-2025 was one of the key issues of the Committee of the geological industry, mining, coal and metallurgical industry of the Presidium of the Atameken National Chamber of entrepreneurs.
In particular, the Committee focused on the development of vectors for the development of the MMI in the medium term.
“We need to understand where to go next. There is no analytics and a clear development program for the industries. We have a plan to increase production by five per cent. It is necessary to develop a full-fledged program for the development of the industry with an analytical and narrative part, conclusions and recommendations indicating the necessary measures of state support,” chairman of the NCE Mining and Metallurgy Committee Nikolay Radostovets said.
He proposed to synchronize the Comprehensive Plan with the Report of the Mining and Metallurgical Sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan, prepared by Wood Mackenzie.
The deputy chairman of the Atameken Board Eldos Ramazanov, stressed that not only MMI has the urgent need to draw up a development plan for medium and long term.
"The Atameken repeatedly raised the issue of the need for industry benchmarks in order to understand where to go and what to do. First of all, the Concept will allow to set the development vector for small and medium businesses. The issue of introducing changes to the Concept of the fuel and energy industry until 2030 is also being discussed now. The National Chamber and the Ministry of Energy agreed to work together, since the issue of affordability of energy resources for the economy of Kazakhstan and the development of medium-term benchmarks are primarily important for SMEs. Such benchmarks show emerging niches for business development,” Eldos Ramazanov said.
In turn, chairman of the Committee for industrial development and industrial safety of the MIID RK Kanat Baitov noted the positive experience of working with Atameken in developing a sectoral program.
“The National Chamber raised the issue of sectoral programs last year. Today we have jointly developed a comprehensive plan for the development of light industry and engineering. The experience was positive. We would identify problems and systemic measures in our concept of the MMI development plan. These will be targeted projects and new state support measures,” Kanat Baitov said.
He added that it is necessary to create new enterprises and modernize existing ones to solve the problem of increasing production. The Comprehensive Plan will be developed taking into account business’ and region’s proposals and new projects.
Also within the framework of the Committee, the participants discussed the creation of a free economic zone near large mining and metallurgical enterprises and the Concept of the fuel and energy industry development until 2030.
