Akim of Almaty Bakytzhan Sagintaev held a meeting with representatives of the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and businessmen of the city.

The meeting focused on the mechanisms of support and development of small and medium-sized businesses.

Chairman of the Board of Atameken Ablay Myrzakhmetov noted the increase in the number of entrepreneurs in the metropolis by 4.3% and the volume of the manufacturing industry by 7.8% compared to the same period last year.

"Almaty's trade potential remains very high, given the fact that trade accounts for one-third of the city's economy. Retail and wholesale trade volumes are growing steadily every year. Only for five months of the current year, the total trade turnover of the city exceeded 5.2 trillion tenge, which is 41.6% of the total trade turnover of Kazakhstan. At the same time, trade in the first quarter of 2019 provided jobs for about 230,000 people," Ablay Myrzakhmetov said.

Almaty, as the country's financial center, is a leader in terms of the availability of financing, he said. Thus, 7% of the total number of projects in Kazakhstan subsidized under the Business Roadmap 2020 programme falls on Almaty. At the same time, Ablay Myrzakhmetov proposed a number of specific measures to prevent barriers for business and the population during the modernization of markets, and also announced his readiness to open modern service centers in all districts of the city in the format of a single window for the maximum coverage of SMEs located in close proximity.

In turn, akim of the metropolis Bakytzhan Sagintayev noted that Almaty is a city of business and private capital with a service structure of the economy. The share of state participation in the economy does not exceed 2.4%, the contribution of SMEs is 39.5%, that is, it is the oil-independent sustainable economy.

All procedures for interaction between entrepreneurs and the state have been simplified. In Almaty, you can do “paperless” business: open an enterprise on the Internet, issue invoices, conduct banking transactions, submit tax returns, coordinate a construction permit, draft design, and sign a contract for connection to electricity.

According to the single window principle, the House of Investments has been opened in the city, where entrepreneurs are provided with service support.

The meeting also focused on the effective use of tourism potential, improvement of the geoinformation map of Almaty, development of the IT industry and digitalization. The meeting participants considered measures to stimulate street trading through the creation of non-stationary outlets.

Representatives of the business community of Almaty shared their vision of further improvement of the business climate in various industries, namely, General Director of Meat Product Service LLP Bakhytzhan Abdrasilov and Director of Alina Group LLP Erlik Balfanbayev, Director of EFKO-Almaty LLP Nurzhan Kozhamuratov, Regional Director of IDC Andrey Beklemishev, Executive Director of the Forum of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan Munavara Paltasheva, Director of Tornado Plus LLP Igor Protsenko, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tanmedia Group Armanzhan Baitasov, and etc. They outlined the existing problems and proposals on the issues of market modernization, tourism development, PPP mechanism, tax preferences for e-commerce entities.
