Сontribution of Karaganda SMEs comparable with volume of Kazakhmys and ArcelorMittal
The contribution of small and medium-sized businesses to the economy of the region is comparable with the volume of large industrial enterprises of the raw materials sector. The experts presented these data at the meeting of Chairman of the Presidium of the Atameken NCE RK Timur Kulibayev and the Akim of Karaganda region Zhenis Kassymbek with entrepreneurs of the region.
Timur Kulibayev noted that the role of SMEs in the region is growing. According to the Atameken, the volume of SME production in 2018 amounted to 1,325 billion tenge, which is comparable to the volume of the largest Kazakhstani enterprises. Currently, 35% of employment in the region is provided by SMEs.
"Yesterday we talked to the head of the Presidential Administration Yerlan Koshanov about the development of Karaganda. He noted that Karaganda is becoming a business city," Timur Kulibayev said.
On the issues raised on the site of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, Timur Kulibayev proposed to create a project group under the guidance of the regional akim and with the involvement of development institutions. It is planned to work in the following areas: import substitution, subsoil use, metallurgy, metalworking.

"Systemic problems of Karaganda business are in line with the difficulties of the entrepreneur all over the country. Among the systemic issues – the availability of finance. How we will get out of this situation should be discussed at the level of the National Bank and the second-tier banks. Yesterday, during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, we discussed that the availability of financing by second-tier banks has decreased dramatically. We see that lending to the economy has decreased in the country. This is a negative trend, and we must work hard on it," the Chairman of the Presidium of the Atameken NCE RK said.
The head of Atmeken also drew the attention of the business community to the project of the Single Procurement Window (eoz.kz), which already includes databases of portals of the Ministry of Finance, Baiterek, KazAgro, Samruk-Kazyna, NADLoC.
"All subsoil users should fill in the information about their companies on this website. There is an opportunity to participate in these competitions with their products, at first you need to get an Industrial certificate in Atameken and you will already be in the database and get into these purchases as a bona fide supplier", - Timur Kulibayev said.
Another project of the Atameken, implementing jointly with the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development, is the Industry information system. The project is designed to monitor the effectiveness of measures of state support, the workload of enterprises, it will help in finding contractors for enterprises to cooperate and expand sales of products. In the first phase of implementation, it is planned to cover more than 2,000 manufacturing enterprises in the country, 352 of which are in the Karaganda region.
