Russia increased volume of transit quotas for Kazakh coal to Ukraine
Kazakhstan will supply 140,000 tons of coal per month to Ukraine through Russia. The agreement was reached within the framework of negotiations with the Russian side.
We would like to remind you that the Russian Federation has been applying restrictive measures to export goods to Ukraine since July this year, which has reduced the export of Kazakh coal and had a negative impact on the economic situation of the coal industry in Kazakhstan.
Thus, according to the data of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC, from June to October 4 Kazakhstan planned to export to Ukraine 1,551 thousand tons of coal but the Russian side approved quota for only 408,000 tons and rejected 1,143 thousand tons. Thus, the unrealized volume of coal exports to Ukraine in transit through the Russian Federation for 4 months amounted to 1,143 thousand tons. From August to October, the Russian Federation limited the quota and approved not more than 86.5 tons of Kazakh coal for transit per month.
The issue of cancelling transit restrictions was considered in the framework of the Kazakh-Russian intergovernmental commission in Nur-Sultan on October 14-15.
With the development of the agreed volumes, Kazakhstan intends to continue negotiations with the Russian side to increase the transit of Kazakh coal.
