Issues of development of organic agriculture were discussed at the round table in Kokshetau

The initiator of the meeting is ULE "Coalition for a green economy and development of G-Global”, together with the Program office of the OSCE in Astana with support from the International Secretariat G-Global and the Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Akmola region.

Law "On organic production" in Kazakhstan was adopted one year ago. This issue has brought together representatives of various spheres - from agriculture to non-governmental organizations. International experts, supervising this sector, were present at the meeting. It was noted that today, organic agriculture is practiced in 160 countries and the turnover in this sector is about 90 billion USD. Chairman of the Board of "Coalition for a green economy and development of G-Global” Saltanat Rakhimbekova added that 88 countries have their own laws on organic farming, including Tajikistan, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, Azerbaijan.

Kazakhstan is represented in this field by thirty farms, based in Almaty, North Kazakhstan and Kostanay regions. However, the potential of Kazakhstan, as noted by foreign experts, is very high, in fact, as noted by Rainer Fridel, expert from Germany, Kazakhstan's production is actually organic, but for full certification farmers need only a paper confirmation of the operations, regarding the use of substances and methods the crop cultivation.

In particular, during the round table were discussed the prospects of development of organic agriculture in the Akmola region. Head of AIC Department of the Regional Chamber of Entrepreneurs Gulmira Dzhazina noted that the Chamber will support any initiatives in the development of organic production in our region. Representatives ALE "Coalition for a green economy and development of G-Global” added that "Organic Center" will be established in the near future.
