On 22nd of May, Kazakhstani-Emirates business forum was held in Astana.

Speaking at this forum, Deputy Chairman of the Board of NCE RK "Atameken" Nurzhan Altaev said that Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates discussed the terms of supply of Kazakhstani products.

"At the moment, the export of live sheep to the UAE is authorized and regulated. The direction for meat products, in general, is one of the most promising. Documents on intentions to purchase Kazakh agricultural products were also signed between "Atameken" and a number of food holdings of the UAE. In December 2016, negotiations were held with the participation of EMCO International LLC and more than 80 Kazakhstani agricultural producers", - Nurzhan Altaev said during the forum.

Deputy Chairman of the Board added that following the results of the forum, two agreements will be signed providing for the creation of a joint business council “UAE-Kazakhstan”, as well as the development of investment and trade opportunities between the UAE and Kazakhstan. An agreement on the establishment of the Kazakhstani-UAE investment group on education was also signed.

"Kazakhstan, in the future, can become a halal hub for the Arab countries. Halal products market is one of the fastest growing in the world, and the market for meat halal products exceeds 33 billion USD. Today, halal hubs are successfully working in the UAE and Malaysia. By analogy with them we want to create such hubs in Kazakhstan, for this we have all the tools. Currently, work is under way to harmonize and work with possible participants in the implementation. If our agricultural producers can enter the market of the halal industry, they will have access to foreign markets", - Nurzhan Altaev said.

The speaker noted that Kazakhstan is interested in investing in the agricultural sector. This is not just an investment for the purpose of further supplying products to their markets.

"Kazakhstan is the gateway to China, the largest and most promising market, where stable growth of the middle class leads to a steadily growing demand. The UAE can become a major investor in the agricultural sector. At the moment, investments from the Emirates to Kazakhstan are generally small. But interest is already there. For example, there is a search for land and investment projects for Al Khaleej Sugar and Al Habtoor", - the Deputy Chairman of the Board summarized.

We add that for 2016, UAE investments in Kazakhstan amounted to only 50.7 million USD.
