THE EEU SET NEW LIMITS ON DUTY-FREE IMPORTS OF GOODS FOR PERSONAL USE

Since January 2019, the Eurasian Economic Union introduced changes into the norms of duty-free import of goods for personal use. The norms on accession of goods for personal use into the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union have been significantly reduced.

Now, without paying customs duties and taxes, it is possible to import goods for personal use for an amount not exceeding 500 euro and weighing not more than 25 kilograms if the border of the EEU territory is crossed on the railway, river transport or on foot.

The aviation tourists will still be able to import goods for personal use to the EEU territory with the cost of 10,000 euro and weighing not more than 50 kilograms.

It should be noted that until 2019 it was possible to import goods for personal use for an amount not exceeding 1,500 euro and weighing not more than 50 kilograms.

It is about the decision of the EEC Council on the gradual reduction of customs limits. The measure is aimed at preventing small-scale illegal trade.

The document also stipulates a monthly limit on the value of goods for personal use coming in parcels and delivering by the carrier to the customs territory of the EEU:

From January 1, 2019, it is possible to order goods for personal use for a total amount of up to 500 euro and weighing not more than 31 kilograms for one calendar month without paying customs duties and taxes.

From January 1, 2020, the duty-free import norm on goods for personal use will be reduced to 200 euro and 31 kilograms.
