Business supports the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Sciences to increase vocational hours for college students. Since the question of qualified personnel is one of the most relevant today.

“The market is interested in highly qualified specialists that meet the new standards,” chairman of the Audit Commission of the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Kudaibergenov said.

The ministry suggested two models of study programs for colleges.

The first is a full-fledged dual model, it aims at reducing education hours and increasing vocational ones instead, the apprenticeships makes 60 per cent of study time. This model consists of only professional disciplines.

The second model consists of the general sciences and professional disciplines. Vocational hours and apprenticeships make at least 40 per cent of the total amount of study time.

For the first time, the Ministry is developing a mechanism for recovering the costs of enterprises (means of protection, consumables, etc.) incurred when the students are trained in a company.  Thus, according to calculations, an annual average of 100, 000 tenge will be transferred to an enterprise per student.

According to deputy director of Radisson Hotel Astana Indira Bersugurova, this step will motivate the enterprises to work with colleges and students.

“Our company has been working with the Astana Polytechnic College for two years as part of dual training. We support the initiative of the Ministry in terms of curriculum flexibility. We would like the industrial training masters to spend more at our enterprise than at the college,” inspector of the Bazis Construction LLP Nadezhda Gutovskaya said.

More than 100 representatives of employers participated in the teleconference and expressed an interest in the new training format. It is planned to introduce a new model of training and reimbursement of enterprises' costs since September of this year.
