Prospects for cooperation between the EAEU and Korea will be discussed in Astana
On 24th of April NCE RK "Atameken" together with the Eurasian Economic Commission will hold an expert session on determining steps for further cooperation between the EAEU and Korea. The Republic of Korea sent a note to the Eurasian Economic Commission on the interest in concluding a free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Korea. In 2015-2016 years. The Eurasian Economic Commission (hereinafter - the EEC, the Commission) together with the Korean side carried out research work to determine approaches to the development of trade and economic relations between the EAEU and Korea, as well as informal consultations on this issue. Currently, the Commission, together with the member states, is considering the issue of the expediency of concluding a free trade agreement between the EAEU and the Republic of Korea. As part of the work on exploring mutually beneficial ways to develop trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU and Korea an expert session will be held in the EEC on 24th of April this year, the purpose of which is to discuss topical problems and prospects for the development of economic interaction between the parties. The attached agenda of the expert session was formed taking into account the analysis of the prospects for the development of trade and economic cooperation with the Republic of Korea (reference). Korea is one of the key economies of the Asia-Pacific region. The country makes 1.65% of world GDP, it also ranks 5th in the world in terms of exports (3.1% of world exports) and 8th in terms of imports (2.8% of world imports). About 78% of Kazakhstan's exports to Korea is "crude oil and crude oil products" - FEACN 270900. The import duty in the Republic of Korea for oil is 3%. The main goods imported by Kazakhstan from the Republic of Korea are "Vehicles with an internal combustion engine with a cylinder capacity of more than 1500 cm3 but not more than 3000 cm3" - FEACN 870323 and "Body for motor vehicles of commodity position 8703" - FEACN 870710 (8.3% of total imports), import tariffs of CCT for which are 16.3% and 7.5% respectively.
