An "open sky" mode has been introduced in the airports of Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Shymkent, Aktau, Karaganda, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Pavlodar, Kokshetau, Taraz, Petropavlovsk and Semey beginning from November 1. It intends the removal of restrictions on the number of flights and the provision of foreign airlines of the fifth degree of "freedom of air" for three years with the possibility of further extension.

Since 2017 the initiative of introduction of an "open sky" mode was actively discussed by the Atameken NCE RK on various platforms with the purpose of increase in transit potential of the country, expansion of a route network, attraction of foreign carriers and development of an infrastructure at the airports.

According to the information of the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, after the completion of negotiations with the Omani aviation authorities, Salam Air plans to open an air corridor from Muscat to Almaty next year.

Air Astana plans to open 3 flights per week to Jeddah in the first quarter of 2020. Also, SCAT airline will fly to Jeddah and Medina 2 times a week from November 30.

In addition, negotiations have been held with Asia's largest low-cost airline Air Asia and global carrier Singapore Airlines; Ural Airlines, which launches a flight from Yekaterinburg-Almaty on December 22; with Polish airline LOT, which will increase the number of flights from Warsaw to Nur-Sultan 7 flights per week from the summer of 2020 and open flights to Almaty from 2021.

At the same time, the Kazakhstani budget carrier Fly Arystan will start operating daily flights from the capital of Kazakhstan to Moscow from December 13.

Shortly there will also be meetings with the aviation authorities of Qatar on flights of Qatar Airways, with the aviation authorities of the United Arab Emirates on flights of Emirates and Fly Dubai airlines to open new flights.

Remind that earlier the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym - Jomart Tokayev is outraged by the cost of air tickets for popular routes in Kazakhstan.

The introduction of the «open sky» mode will help Kazakhstan to attract new foreign carriers, open new international routes, increase competition and ultimately affect the reduction of airfare and air transport for the population. Also this will contribute to the development of tourism and increase transport accessibility of the Astana International Financial Center.

The 5th degree of "air freedom" includes flights of a foreign airline company through the cities of Kazakhstan to the cities of third countries, which will increase the transit potential of Kazakhstan and increase the transit passenger flow through domestic airports.
